Until about a month ago, I was not aware that there is a Kosovar Newspaper named Illyiria published in the Albanian language in New York. It came to my attention when a friend of mine, Esad Reizi, called me and informed me that Illyria had mentioned my name. That is when I commenced looking into it.
The following is what we have uncovered: It is owned by Lek Gojcaj, published by Wahbi Bajrami and financed by the Prime Minister of Albania, Sali Berisha.
Sources close to Lek Gojcaj told me that he is insulted by what his paper publishes and that he is trying to get rid of it. Sale it!
Illyriai is published twice a week in New York and it sales approximately 250 copies each publication. Its readers are mostly Kosovar Albanians. Most Albanians from Albania don’t even know anything about this newspaper. They appear to get their information from two other local newspapers, Bota Sote and Dielli, both of which are highly respected by both the Albanian community here in the States and aboard.
